Getting to the RAI Amsterdam
If you’re flying into Schiphol Airport for a show, Amsterdam’s transport links make getting to the venue and into the city quick and stress-free. A few handy tips we always share with clients and teams:
Airport → RAI Amsterdam
Train (Fastest Option): Take a direct train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Zuid (approx. 7 minutes), then transfer to tram, metro, or bus for a short ride to RAI. Trams 4 and 12 and Metro lines 50, 51, and 52 all serve the venue area.
Direct Train to RAI: Some trains also stop at Amsterdam RAI Station, which is just a short walk from the venue.
Taxi: Official taxis are available outside the terminal and usually take 15-20 minutes outside peak hours. Ride-hailing services such as Uber also operate throughout the city.
Car Hire: Rental desks are located in the arrivals hall, but parking around RAI is limited and often expensive, so public transport is usually the better option.
RAI → City Centre
Tram: Lines 4 and 12 connect RAI with popular areas including the Museum Quarter, Leidseplein, and Dam Square.
Metro: Lines 52 (North–South), 50, and 51 provide fast access to Central Station, Zuid, and other major districts.
Cycling: Amsterdam’s bike-friendly infrastructure makes cycling a great option. Bike rentals are available near RAI and throughout the city.
Getting Around
Contactless Travel: Most trams, buses, and metros accept contactless debit/credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay—no ticket needed.
Travel Passes: Visitors staying longer may benefit from a GVB day or multi-day pass, offering unlimited travel across the network.
OV-chipkaart: For frequent travellers, this reusable card works across all public transport in the Netherlands.
Journey Planning: Apps such as 9292 and Google Maps provide real-time routes and service updates.
Travel Tips
Rush Hours: Weekday peaks are typically 07:30-09:00 and 16:30-18:30, when trains and trams can be busy.
Allow Extra Time: During major exhibitions and conferences, services can be crowded, arrive early when possible.
Luggage Friendly: Trains and metros offer designated spaces for suitcases and exhibition materials.
