Reuse Done Right: What to Consider for Custom Exhibition Builds

Reusing elements of a custom exhibition booth is often seen as an easy win for sustainability but like most things in the events world, it’s not quite that simple.

The Pros

Reusing key components like reception desks, product displays, or feature structures can significantly reduce material consumption. Instead of building everything from scratch for each show, you’re extending the lifecycle of existing assets, which naturally leads to less waste.

It’s also an effective way to maintain brand consistency across multiple events. Familiar touchpoints and recognisable structures help create a cohesive presence, even when the overall booth design evolves.

The Cons

Reuse doesn’t always deliver the cost savings people expect. Storage fees can quickly add up, particularly for larger items or when elements need to be held between shows for long periods.

Logistics is another key consideration. Transporting booth elements between venues, especially across different regions or countries, can be complex. In some cases, the environmental impact of shipping may start to offset the sustainability benefits of reuse.

A Balanced Approach

Custom booths can still be designed with sustainability in mind. Using stock walling systems allows materials to be reused show after show. And when those walls eventually reach the end of their life in that form, they don’t go to waste - they can be broken down and repurposed as base layers for flooring or other structural elements.

Reuse isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, but when approached thoughtfully, it plays a valuable role in creating more responsible exhibition spaces.
